New Years & Resolutions

It’s that time of year again.  That time where we can press the “reset” button on life.  The New Year brings fresh hope for finishing things unaccomplished.  I plan on making this the year I drop the pounds, organize my home, and keep up with a routine that includes blogging on a regular basis.  Not too much to ask, right?

I will start with diet and exercise.  I have been so inconsistent with working out and eating right.  I get bored easy, what can I say!  Not to mention, most diets I have tried are unsustainable.  Everyone is different…I believe different diets work for different people.  It has got to be a gene thing.  Anyway, after watching the new reality show on ABC called “My Diet is Better Than Yours”, I decided I could attempt this at home.  I can find the diet that works for me…by trying them…for a week.  My plan is to “try-on” a diet for 7 days.  At the end of 7 days I will weigh-in and see if the diet is working.  Now I know the scale is not the most accurate in the beginning of a new diet.  Water weight fluctuations and muscle can really throw off the numbers.  So I also plan on using body measurements and consider my overall physical and mental well being while on each.  At that point, I will make a decision to keep it or kick it.  I have started today with the “10-Hour Coffee Diet” (J. Jolan).  So it basically consists of, you guessed it…coffee!  The coffee drink I have to make has ample amounts of fat and protein.   But, this is supposed to sustain me until dinner.  Um, yeah.  I love coffee, but I’m having a hard time waiting till dinner to eat a real meal!  This feels like slim-fast on steroids.  I will give it 7 days before I decide, and update you all on how it is going. So! Day 1 is officially over, but, I have to say, it was pretty rough.  I had “fog brain” all day until dinner.  I have heard others rave about putting fats in coffee…not feeling it yet, and I love the stuff!  We shall see…

  1. I can totally relate to the -getting bored easily- And coffee diet? That sounds great! But following a diet can be really stressful. I’ve been avoiding eating out. I eat homemade food only. Like even if I feel like having chinese or a pizza, I’ll cook it. It’s nice and healthier. Also, I go for a run everyday, after having 2 espresso shots on an empty stomach. That increases your metabolism and burns down fats faster. After the run I exercise and have a boiled egg. Proteins cut fats. And after that I just eat whatever is there at home. And it has really helped me reduce a lot. I’m 6 kgs down. A few more to go. I suggest you’d try this too. You’re not stressed about following a diet or losing weight. It just happens automatically. 😀

  2. Hi, Shloka, thanks for the tips! Being in the country, I have to make most of my meals. To get take out would mean a 30 minute drive or more! When I lived in the city, I could literally walk to Starbucks, Chinese, Pizza, Bagel shop…you name it, I could get it quick. It has been a learning curve to make it all from scratch. I have gotten better at in, though! You are right, home cooked food is soooo much better than store bought!
